Patient
04:54
|
|||
I’m all alone
with a city and a coat
with a city and a coat
on my shoulders
Lipstick kiss
on the outside window
on the outside window
looking in
Raindrop falls
flows the color ruby red
flows the color ruby red
down the window
I’m all alone
with a city and a coat
with a city and a coat
on my shoulders
Fahrenheit
reads eighty-two
reads eighty-two
in September
Sheets and pillows
cover my basement floor
cover my basement floor
once again
Breakfast upstairs
bluebird won’t greet me
bluebird won’t greet me
by my window
Fahrenheit
reads eighty-two
reads eighty-two
in September

Break Glass (Plan B)
04:23
|
|||
This is not the plan
but this is what it would be had it been
between my fingers
between the markers in the sand
ship tilts to port side
taking in water from below
caught in the crossfire
dead on arrival, I don’t know
how exactly but
This is not to be
It doesn’t have to be
This is not to be
It doesn't have to be
Take my hand, we’ll get out alive
Muted television, detour in the night
broken glass, emergency
this is not to be, it doesn’t have to be
This is not the plan
but this is what it would be had it been
had it been

Mystery in Violet
05:53
|
|||
I wish the world could hear me when I’m talking to myself
but then movie stars and vagabonds would empty out my shelves
In a world of instant contact, the best things keep quiet
And mystery’s alluring in her many shades of violet
She kisses all my pictures and answers with a ring
but doesn’t call me master and I never call her queen
I wish the world could see me when I dance with her alone
but something tells me emperors and thugs would have me stoned
Twirling in the night
mystery feels right
If every eye was watching as her velvet garment flowed
I’d never show my face again no matter where I go
“Impossible,” she reminds me, “when you don’t even know
the ways I dance within you from your eyeballs to your toes”
I bow to her and answer, “There’s still one little truth,
You came from my own spirit, I did not come from you”
If every eye could idle on our spinning silhouettes
I’d give a wink and pass them by without a lone regret
Twirling out of sight
mystery feels right
She says, “ it’s true my darling, but still I must suppose
you want to share your secrets but you can’t go alone
you’ll have to ask permission before I let you loose,
don’t try to undermine me or your pride will be your noose”
I sigh and say to Mystery, “I’m not a stubborn man,
But every step I want to take I take with my own hand”
She says, “it’s true, my dearest, but I don’t buy your bluff”
And she leaps into the daylight and I grab her by the cuff
Twirling in the light
mystery feels right
I wish the world could hear me when I’m talking to myself
But every poor interpreter would have something to sell
If all I've got is mystery that keeps me in a bind
Then she is worth the treasures that I know I leave behind

Wings to Rise
03:00
|
|||
Casting a shadow on the planet down below
Arch of its rings above my head like a halo
Ten thousand years behind are torn tether cables
I Could’ve been a No Code, dead on the table
But it wasn’t to be the truth that night
I was given wings to rise now
watch me fly
I am an eagle with a crescent made of light
Giving away my direction that’s made right
There’s nothing that can take the wind under my feet
Without a word the wind blows me off the street
And it isn’t smoke-and-mirror might
I was given wings to rise now
watch me fly
watch me fly
watch me fly
It’s so very special where I am
playing in this cosmic band
will you fly with me?
Will you fly with me?

Nation
03:56
|
|||
Milk and honey was supposed to await us
Prosperity gospel had fully persuaded
The world it was free to consume with our paycheck
and dance under light bulbs, no need for rain checks
Pretending to focus, to tycoon idols we’d pray
Then leave with shrugged shoulders, with nothing left to explain
What will our children come to say
of the nation left below?
As a boy I kept busy with guitars and sandals
As a boy I was told, son, watch out for the vandals
But the vandals took over, and they rob the world dry
of its health and its oxygen, while the drone victims die
And the worst is nobody is at fault except me
I took part in the nation, a world in debris
What will our children use to build
the nation that should be?
If God had intended to set us all free
With total consumption and a blind lottery
That freedom's worth nothing, no, not this disaster
That god is demented, a despicable master
But I’ve felt the Truth, the Lord of love now weeps
Because we chose nightmares for my unborn child’s sleep
Will our children come to see
the Kingdom within?
Will our children come to be
The good and true nation
unlike us?

Jukebox Love Song
03:18
|
|||
You’ll know when it’s love when you feel the sun kiss
even when there’s no sun in the sky
You’ll know it’s love when the waves collapse you
but there’s not a teardrop in your eye
You’ll know when it’s love when the blade is shattered
but you never lay down in defeat
you’ll know when it’s love, you’ll know
you’ll know
You’ll know when it’s here in the morning hours
when the scales of sleep fall from your eyes
You’ll know when it’s here in the ancient desert
It’ll drain your flesh and spirit dry
You’ll know when it’s here when the war is over
as the ticker tape falls on the street
You’ll know when it’s here, you’ll know
You’ll know
You’ll know when it’s time on the southern harbor
leaving for the sea so cold and blue
you’ll know when it’s time with the tolling tower
ringing out the old and in the new
You’ll know when it’s time on the final border
where the grass is green across the street
you’ll know when it’s time, you’ll know
You’ll know

Glory Box
04:13
|
|||
You were walking in the warehouse with your glory box
Would I have known you had I never had a second thought
to hop on highway 40, Little Bangladesh
Glimmers with transparency and neighbors who never rest?
Your box of rain and dandelions always locked
Turning the corner to walk the crumbled parking lot
Hand me every one of your keys
I’m beholder beholden and you left your home
Headed out to New York, left your car and changed your phone
And you carried on to school but there weren't no jobs
You stayed in black rooms with headphones and twisting knobs
You’re making music based on traffic tragedies
Leaking through walls, just like me, but actually
I'm here cause you never paid your fees
When the heroes all retire and I’m headed home
You won’t see me alone out on desolation row
But somewhere the neighbors say there’s greener grass
You’re always invited, there’s just one thing I ask
Leave your chest of magic opened just one more time
And I’ll pay for admission and forget about your fine
One look is all I’m gonna need
There's brambles wrapped around me now, the wheels scraping through gravel
It cut the wire intertwined through me and you unraveled
I can’t miss this opportunity, there’s not a moment to waste
Cause every moment I live is another breath I take
And I don't have every breath in the world

There’s a miracle country on the outskirts of town
And all the priests and pirates talk about it all around
With their saxophones and whispers they share in debate
Some are angry, some are bitter, some want to celebrate
There’s a cup full of fiction they’ve all passed around
and it’s full of creamy emptiness, sweet to wash down
In the square of the city round the old microphone
All the drunk desperados and heroes scream at Rome
There’s Genghis Khan reborn, or that’s what he calls himself
In the throne room, he sits like a yogi on a shelf
Mr. Miracle’s devoted swarm his back dressing room,
All the while the bride comes for the unexpected groom
There’s a golden bell ringing on the outskirts of town,
And the Miracle country hosts the wedding gone down,
Bitter tears like vapor will evaporate and die,
As the anthem of the aliens declare in open sky
open sky
